Supreme deity and principle of good for the ancient Iranians. His prophet Zoroaster, is believed to have lived around 1200 BC. He appears as a stern, unforgiving, white-bearded old man in a loin cloth with a burning staff in one fist and monstrous wings of feathered fire. He is opposed by a being called Angra Mainyu or Ahriman, the principle of darkness and deception.
