Born in Taurin, Gerhalt was abandoned by an unwed mother. Luck was with the infant as he was found by a street hag named Iza. Gerhalt's youth in Taurin was bumpy to say the least. Gerhalt often had to constantly the fleeing local authority for petty pick-pockets and minor house break-ins. Finally, at the age of sixteen, Gerhalt felt that it was time to leave his hometown; the fact that he was forced to leave at swordpoint largely contributed to this decision.
     Wandering was not Gerhalt's cup of tea and so eventually he settled into thieving in a city named Zazazu. His theiving career was not to be long, however, for he was soon conscripted into the local army - by sword point again. Gerhalt stayed only for dinner, exchanging pleasentries with a young half-elf by the name of Sarcos. Sneaking out before daybreak, he headed north, eventually ending up in the city of Amn. There he set up shop acting as a begger.
