Great website!  I used to come here frequently, years ago, when I was new to DMing.  I still stop by every now and then to see if things are still running.  Your campaigns gave me a lot of inspiration in those early days, and a couple of your monsters have been very useful.  Glad to hear you're still gaming!  Best of luck, and thanks!

    Chris;
Thanks for leaving me this message. While it's honestly been a while since I've made an update
to this website - which I feel guilty about -  I do still roleplay every week and Sulerin is still used
as my campaign setting. My current campaign is about four years old and is set in the
Bethdezran empire in the northwestern corner of the main continent, often around the cities of
Bethra, Amn and Ashanath, with frequent forays eastward into the Black Order controlled Dezeri
lands. We've been having something of a dragon renascence, complicated by the spreading
influence of a cult of "dreamers" who trade their bodies for immortality in the bodies of others
and who exalt the supremacy of mortal self-empowerment over the influence of the divine. We've
been using the Pathfinder rules through-out and it's been an exciting campaign with regional
impact, now in the early stages of mythic/epic adventure. I look forward to sharing it with you
    and our other readers.
Thank you once again for your comment. I'm grateful every time I hear from someone who's
been inspired by Sulerin.com. Best wishes to you and I hope you continue to forge great stories
    through roleplaying.

I've been doing a similar thing for my own campaign (http://zioth.com/zioth), with NPC information, custom spells etc, but nowhere near as extensive as what you have. I've also put together a lot of game turns in prose form (16 years worth), along the same lines as your character journals.

Very interesting site. I was wondering if you entered this world into the competition for making a new setting, which caused the release of Eberron?
I must say I slightly miss the specific flavor and detailed info of countries, like normal CS books have, or am I overlooking this info?
However, I am hardly the one to give critics, my own site at the moment is more for the mod of BG2 I am creating than for any D&D stuff (only have all campaign importable stuff). Player is yet too put our (I was DM) 2 year campaign into pdf. I hope to change a bit of that though, as I have at the moment already 135 pages (in CS Book style) of an own Campaign setting I am making: 'Arscura'.
Well, thanks for a good look into how others create their worlds. I salute your skills in making websites and your dedication to building this world. Hope you don't kill me for critics and such a long message.

        Guido;
I'd like to think I take criticism fairly well and long messages are always nice
since they usually show an effort to really say something. Anyway, to answer
your questions. Sulerin is pretty old, I've been working on it for more than 20
years. When the setting competition at Wizards of the Coast was announced I
did consider entering it into the competition, but ultimately I decided that I
wanted to keep the website free and that I didn't want to commercialize the
setting. I did submit several other entries, but none were chosen. I think it
spoke volumes when Wizards awarded the competition to one of their own
staff members out of the over ten-thousand entries submitted by the public.
I'll leave it to the rest of the public to decide whether that action was
influenced by cronyism or not. That said, I think Eberron is ok and I like a
number of ideas that have come from it.
Anyway, for a long time I've wanted to write a great deal about the
various countries. Seven or eight regions have been lightly detailed on the
website, such as the Eastern Empire, United Kingdoms, and a variety of
other areas. There are various places where cities have received a lot of
attention, such as Hana, where my present campaign is set. But you're right,
it would be nice to have more information about the different parts of the
world. It's something that I've thought a lot about and in some ways I feel
like I'm limited by the available tools on hand to express it adequately in
the current way that the Atlas area is set up. As it is, scaling maps and
checking for accuracy is a bit of a chore at present. I've been trying to think
of a better way to do it.
With the advent of 4th edition, there will likely be some incentive for
me to revise the website as well. Technological limitations that existed last
time I remodeled have changed, people's monitors support more screen
space, my understanding of how to organize the tremendous amount of
information in this site has increased, and my own skills have improved as
well. So a new edition of Dungeons and Dragons is as good a reason as any
to once again update the look of things and grapple with issues like how I can
set up my tools for administering the Atlas in a way that it will be easier and
faster for me to provide those details that you ask for.

        Cheers;

Love the site. I was wondering if you would mind sending me some tips for creating a game setting. Thans for ur time and again love the site.

      Lucas;
I think the biggest challenge for me has been balancing organization against
creativity. Sometimes my drive for organization and desire for details stymies
my creative instinct. This has been particularly true in the Religions section
of this website, although I am pretty happy with how things have so far turned
out. My advice, when an idea occurs to you that you think is cool, write it
down. Don't let the details frustrate you, they don't have to be there from the
very start; allow them to develop naturally and I think you'll be more pleased
with the results and feel less shackled to the development process.

I suppose that depends on your definition of "work." If you've come here like
others in the past like Tammy, Kevin, or Amy, who have suggested they're
looking for spells and magic items for use in the real world, then you're
bound to be disappointed. If you mean to say you're looking for spells that
work well in a fantasy campaign, then you'll probably find a few here. Every
spell detailed here has appeared at least once or many more times in various
        campaigns I've run.

Nice to make your acquaintance! I run my own games entirely by tabletop,

There are often many resources for online roleplayers on IRC too. If I was

        Donny;
There's lots of ways to find players other than simply recruiting a few
friends. Here are a couple ways to find other roleplayers in your area:
Try a player registry, there's a list of them here:
        http://www.rpggateway.com/People_and_Places/Player_Registries/index.php
Go to your local hobby shop or book store that sells RPG materials and
ask them if they have a place that you can put a up a note advertising that
you want to meet other players. Most places have something like this or they
are willing to help out since if more people are playing then it means more
sales for them later on. If they don't have something, just introduce yourself
to other people who are buying RPG stuff. I've found some of my players
        doing this kind of thing.

that word again....) I have been away from the world of
D&D for about 6 years. Almost a year ago now I was looking
through the D&D section of a local sf and fantasy book

Not only was there a 3rd edition but a 3.5th edition! My

couldn't get worse..." (The 2nd edition had seemed to me
to be a complete waste of money and time.) But upon
perusing the new players handbook I became excited...(I am

to create a campaign world and see if I couldn't find some
folks to play in it. In "my" spare time over the last year
I haven't done even 1/50th of what you have done. And it
is no where near as detailed and creative as what you have
come up with. I looked through the new wotc campaign book

playable as well. Any way, keep up the good work. I plan

Thanks in advance,
sir_ollibolli

        Sir_ollibolli;
Here's the modules we used, in order.

Dungeon Magazine #87: Raiders of Galath's Roost
        Dungeon Magazine #91: Bogged Down
        Dungeon Magazine #86: Stormdancers
        L2: The Assassin's Knot
Dungeon Magazine #90: Tears for Twilight Hollow

After Twilight Hollow (my favorite of the five) I started running my own
material, which is what I prefer to do anyway. I'd just not had time before
then to do much campaign preparation, so the modules provided us with
material to work with. As a side note, starting a campaign using just modules
really didn't work out well. It's hard to keep the story line from being
disjointed and some modules have a higher lethality rating than my typical
        campaign.

2) what did you use to design your atlas ?

        Pat;

Welcome back. The best person to make magic items for your campaign is
you, since you know what will fit into your campaign far better than I ever
will. If you're having trouble making simple, but fun items then just use the
ones from the Dungeon Master's Guide until you get the hang of it. You can
also find numerous examples of different items here on this website in the
        Magic Items section.

Monks don't cast any spells. They have supernatural powers instead. You can
learn more about the abilities of monks, as they are portrayed in Dungeons
& Dragons on page 39 to 42 of the 3.5 edition Player's Handbook or by the
        below link:
                  http://www.wizards.com/d20/files/v35/ClassesI.rtf

You can learn more about D&D at http://www.wizards.com/dnd and you can
probably find information about new online campaigns that are being run in
      the forums there.

Of course, you could also get some friends together, purchase a Player's
Handbook, and start your own campaign around a table. That's what I do.

PUT THREE candles in the highest

all around the candles.
Light the candles.
Ask for three wishes
to your guardian angels
ST.RAFAEL , ST.MICHAEL

Ask one wish for business,
one wish for love
and an impossible wish.
Publish this spell on the third day

I don't know how often you check your site, but I will sign your guestbook. I actually have too many names to remember, my main character is above. I have been a Dungeon Master for 10 years now, and Roleplaying even longer than that. I have been mudding for 8 years as well, my father and I both, he is an Immortal on Avatar Mud. I have been wondering when someone as creative, imaginitive, and liked D&D/AD&D as much as I do would finally put their ideas for all the see. Every time I try I get the HTTP head ache and give up after a while. Excellent site, loved the Creatures section alot, I read the entire thing in about 4 days when I had breaks at work. If you send anything to my e-mail, you'll have to wait till September because I am in California right now, I live in North Carolina. I'll quit boring you with details, and keep up the good work. Your ideas have stirred my imagination to new lengths of creativity. ----Everwatcher of the Realms, Durdyn
