"A big brain on four legs" describes an intellect devourer. The creature stalks living prey, sometimes at the behest of powerful masters, and co-opts their bodies after devouring the brain. Note: The Menace Manual lists these as CR8 creatures even though they possess the same powers. This is probably because that modern heroes aren't quite as tough as fantasy heroes.
