Territorial dragons that burrow through loose earth and often surprise prey by bursting out from the soil. They are wingless, have webbed claws, and a serpentine tail like a rattlesnake. Their glossy, rust-colored scales blacken with maturity. If well fed and cautiously approached they have been known to converse and deal with other intelligent creatures.
