These are spirits of mighty warriors who perished before fulfilling a promise or quest, slain by the heat or other desert dangers. They desire death through honorable combat, so they seek out foes to challenge with their bodies of animate sand. They fight fairly if treated fairly, but death for them is always temporary - the only way to truly lay one to rest is to set aright what prevents it from resting.
