Crimson skinned and long horned creatures who are often mistaken for abyssal fiends. Their ability to shapechange further adds to their common employment as assassins. A harmed protean can split its body into two identical physical forms of itself, each posing its own danger. When danger has passed, these two forms can rejoin as one creature.
