This loathsome spell, favored by priests of Azhull, causes the target of the spell to become covered with hundreds of tiny biting insects. So many insects are summoned that they fall off of the target creature and expand to attack anything organic within 20 feet of the target.
The target of this spell suffers 1d6/level damage as the insects bite (max 25d6) and inject their debilitating poison (DC 19 + spellcasters ability modifier, primary 1d10 Dex, secondary 1d10 Wis). Each round that the insects remain they continue to bite and sting the target for additional damage and poison.
Any creature that comes within 20 feet of the spell target is subject to poisonous biting attacks of the insects as well. The insects which radiate outward are weakened though and inflict one-half damage, their poison remains as virulent as before.
Organic materials in the presence of the swarm are also attacked. Paper, rope, and cloth are destroyed after one round, leather is destroyed after two rounds, and wood is destroyed after five rounds of exposure. Enchanted items withstand the onslaught an additional round for each magical plus that they possess.
You may choose to target this spell on yourself. If you choose to do so then you and your possessions suffer no harm from this spell. Further, you gain a +5 natural armor bonus from the swarm of insects which cover your body and possessions.
The attacks of the insects are nonmagical, so creatures with damage reduction are immune to its effects. Likewise, anything that would deter or destroy normal insects is effective against these insects. Regardless, the target of the spell continues to eminate the swarm until the spell ends.
Material Component: A fistful of insect shells.
