Character Creation Guidelines

These were the limits specified for character creation so that all characters were roughly the same power level. Remember, this is second edition.

  • 1.7 million experience points.
  • A number of proficiencies equal to their highest prime requisite ability score.
  • All characters could speak Midden-Tongue.
  • d4+1 re-usable magical items, randomly chosen from the Encyclopedia Magica.
  • d6+1 single or limited use magical items, randomly chosen from the Encyclopedia Magica.
  • 1 magical item chosen by the player
  • 1 magical item chosen by the dungeon master.
  • Any mundane equipment with virtually unlimited funds to procure such equipment.
  • 2000 coins of any type. Characters could substitute gems worth 500 gold for every 100 fewer coins that they chose to take. Keep in mind that platinum to gold in Sulerin is 1:10. The idea is to have enough money that they don't need to worry about mundane costs, but they aren't out raising an army or making other extraordinary purchases.
  • If they are a spellcaster they would have knowledge of 3 times the max number of spells memorizable at that level.
  • Players were allowed to use any method of ability score generation from the Skills & Powers hardback. Other than that, character creation was pretty standard. We didn't use anything else from S&P.
